Location: Las Navas de Buitrago, Madrid, Spain
Status: Under construction
Built Area of dwelling: 150 m²
Year: 2025–2026

In July, we began the design process for this single-family house with a swimming pool in the small settlement of Las Navas de Buitrago, nestled in the Sierra Norte of Madrid. The project proposes a compact, single-storey dwelling with an attic, carefully positioned to open towards the surrounding pastures and mountain landscape.

The house is built with clay blocks and laminated timber, combining mineral mass, timber structure and breathable envelope systems. The construction is finished with healthy, low-impact materials such as rock wool insulation, natural lime plasters and mineral paints, creating a robust, breathable and comfortable domestic environment.

The main living spaces are arranged around a generous open interior, where the kitchen, dining area and living room share a continuous space under an exposed timber roof. The attic level is integrated within the volume of the roof, taking advantage of the section to create additional domestic areas without increasing the apparent scale of the house.

Towards the rear, the house opens to a protected garden with a swimming pool and a deep porch. This outdoor room is conceived as a sheltered extension of the living area, protected from the prevailing winds of the Sierra and filtered by a light bamboo shading structure. The porch, pool and garden form a calm intermediate space between the house and the wider landscape.

Construction began in January with earthworks and site layout. The project is currently progressing on site, maintaining the original intention of a simple, mineral and timber architecture, closely connected to the rural character of its setting.
